This photo was probably taken in 1941-42. Byron Fleming is holding Pat and
she appears as a toddler.
Edward Taylor Fleming was born in Logan County, Kentucky on 9 Nov 1872.
He was the son of Moses Allen Fleming and Mary Ellen Johnson Fleming.
He moved to Texas as a young man and first settled in Lamar County,
Texas.
He met and married Anna May Henderson, the daughter of Charles Addison
and Arretta Skidmore Henderson.
Taylor and May were married on 5 Aug 1892 and lived at Pecan Gap,
Texas. Taylor and family members would go to the Oklahoma Indian
Territory to scout around and hunt for game. They soon moved to what is
now know as Pushmataha County, Oklahoma The men built small houses on
the banks of the Kiamichi River and May and the older children came by
train to Hugo, Oklahoma on 1 Jan 1903.
Taylor was a farmer all his life and loved to hunt and fish. Farmers
in those days all had large families to help in the fields. Taylor and
May Fleming were no exceptions and they had a total of twelve children:
1. Infant son born on 27 Mar 1895 and died the same day in Texas.
2. Hallie Ester was born 20 Nov 1896 in Texas and died 8 Sep 1904.
She was buried at the Belzoni cemetery, west of Rattan, Oklahoma.
3. Bertha Edna was born on 8 Jan 1899 in Delta County, Texas. She
married Earl W. Campbell. She married later to a Nole, and then to a
Spencer. Edna and Earl Campbell had one adopted daughter, Sandra. Edna
died on 28 Feb 1975 and was buried at the Odd Fellow cemetery at
Antlers, Oklahoma.
4. Elvin Clyde was born on 12 Jan 1901 in Delta County, Texas. He
married Sarah Belle Goodin and they had a total of eleven children.
Elvin died on 5 Jul 1953 and was buried at Dibble, McClain County, OK.
5. Clara Lea was born 18 Feb 1903, the first child born in Oklahoma.
She married James McConnell on 27 Apr 1919. They had a total of six
children. She died at Tulsa, Oklahoma and was buried at Floral Haven
cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
6. Jennie Leora was born on 2 Jun 1905 in Pushmataha County, OK.
She married Theodore Worthington on 2 Oct 1930. They had one daughter,
Janell. Jennie died in Tulsa and was buried at the Rose Hill cemetery,
Tulsa, Oklahoma.
7. Ruby was born on 9 Aug 1907 in Pushmataha County, OK. She married
Burl Nichols. She died on 27 Oct 1924 in childbirth have twin baby
girls. To complicate matters, she also had typhoid fever, and it was too
much for her. The babies died also.
8. Charles Edward was born 7 Oct 1909 in Pushmataha County, OK. He
first married Adell Rogers and then later married Viola Hyde. They had a
total of four children. Charles died on 16 Jan 1986 and was buried at
Rattan, Oklahoma.
9. Byron Elwood was born on 3 Dec 1911 at Belzoni, Pushmataha
County, Oklahoma. He married Rita Gertrude Williams, the daughter of
Robert John and Jessie Williams, on 2 Dec 1933. They had two children,
Billy and Patricia.
Byron died on Easter Sunday, 16 Apr 1995 and was buried at the Darwin
cemetery located west of Antlers, Oklahoma.
10. Jewel May was born on 31 Jan 1914 at Belzoni, Oklahoma. She
married Arthur B. Childers on 25 Dec 1939. She died at Tulsa, and
services were held at the Emanuel Baptist Church of Tulsa. She was
buried in Tulsa, one month short of her 84th birthday.

Wilma Irene was born 18 Mar 1916 at Belzoni, Oklahoma. She died
a year later on 8 Jun 1917 and was buried at the Belzoni cemetery, west
of Rattan, Oklahoma.
12. Morris Gilbert was born 11 Mar 1918 at Belzoni, Oklahoma. He
married Verna May Smith on 15 Jul 1945. They had 3 children. Gilbert
died on 17 Oct 1994 and was buried at Ft. Towson, Choctaw County,
Oklahoma.
Anna May Fleming was the first to die on 20 Nov 1959 and she was
buried at the Belzoni cemetery, west of Rattan, Oklahoma. Taylor later
died in Tulsa on 28 Dec 1962 and was buried along side his wife, his
father, and other Fleming members.
